Subject: [SLE] can't get cable internet (can't seem to configure eth0)
hello:
I got frustrated with my Suse Professional 8.0 the other night, and I
completely re-installed it.
oh well...now, however, my cable internet connection won't work (it did
before). I initially configured it as pcmcia-0; then, tried configuring the
card as /dev/eth0. Neither worked. I wonder if I should configure the card
as pcmcia-0, and then create a link to /dev/eth0.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Run "cardctl ident" or cardinfo to confirm that the card is correctly
recognised. If it is, "ifconfig eth-pcmcia-0 eth0 up" will bring the card
up. typing "ifconfig" should show the card as being up and running.
"ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1" will set the ip address. "dhcpcd eth0" will get
an address from a dhcp server.
Please check the exact syntax on the man pages. I use this for my pcmcia
wireless card.
Regards.
