originally installed NVidia drivers via YOU, a real mess, tweaked it a
bit
with suggestions in '3Ddiag' and it worked but with regular freeze-ups (no ctrl+alt+bkspc here!). then i said dammit janet, i'll do it manually. went and got the latest ones from ftp did an rpm -Uvh for kernel and -e, ivh for glx. it still freezes regularly!!!
can anyone enlighten me how to properly install the nvidia drivers for a geforce2 mx/mx 400 on Suse 8.1. thanks
I have the drivers (4349) working on 8.0 for a Geforce2 mx/mx 400. rpm -Uvh for the kernel, rpm -e for the old GLX ( supposedly the older GLX rpms did not update fully and so it is better to remove them). rpm -ivh for the new GLX. If crashes still occur it is likely something to do with the AGP setup in Xf86Config file in /etc/X11, assuming that the drivers are loaded correctly. There are four AGP Options in this file; 0 Dont use agp 1.Use nvidia agp driver (only works with certain chipsets) 2. Use agpart driver ( does not work with mine) 4. Try 2 then 1. I use Option 0. Must be more careful about what chipset you buy! There is a long very useful pdf somewhere in the Linux drivers download section explaining all this in endless detail. Hope this helps. Cheers Al
