Please point me in the right direction for information on kernel change from SuSE 2.4.19-athlon to kernel.org 2.4.9. I need at least 2.4.3 for the sake of my usb scanner, and felt that I might as well go all the way (the thought of 2.5.x scares me. (well, actually heading outside of the realm of a yast update scares me, but...)). Am I better off compiling from the source, or...? Why? I am able to get a RedHat 2.4.7-athlon.rpm. Would I be better off using this? What will this do to my SuSE 8.1 system by going outside SuSE for the kernel?

I really fear doing this, so I need detailed information and step-by-step directions. I don't want to toast my system.

Bernd
