Has anyone noticed an occasional tendency for their display to go completely blank when logging out? It is not every time, maybe 50%. And it's all screens, not just the X screen. A reboot is necessary.
Here: XFree 4.3.0, KDE 3.1, Mantel 2.4.20-30 kernel, and new Radeon 7000 video card.
Yes, but it is not 50% of the time, it is 100% of the time. The screen turns black but leaves the mouse pointer up. You cannot view the logout process. The only way I know that the logout is completed is when my computer gives me the "beep beep". SuSE 8.1, KDE 3.1, XFree 4.3 There must be a way to stop this behavior, but I sure don't know how! I have also lost the "wheel function" on my mouse and 3D on my Voodoo 3 video card. No matter how many times I try to configure them in SAX2 they will not work. Very annoying. Bob S.
I've had a similar problem ever since I moved to an AGP video card, I have a Savage4. I used to use control-alt-backspace to drop out of X, but now when I do it, it sometimes works, sometimes locks up the machine. 50-50.
So now I have to Exit X by issuing a "Quit" command to my fvwm window manager. Then I leave X perfectly each time.
