Open ControlCenter --> Look&Feel --> Screensaver and unclick Enable screensaver (box at top of screen).

Thanks, I'll give it a try. p.s. I'm assuming the <alt-2> above is <alt-F2>. <alt-2> doesn't seem to do anything on my machine. If not please let me know what I am doing wrong. -- D.C.
