mouse cable length

Hi,
Apparently, there is a limit in the mouse cable length: a 1.8 m
extension cable works but a 10 m one does not. Is there a workaround?
Configuration: Logitech PS2 mouse, SuperMicro P4DCE motherboard. Two
mice and two 10 m cables tested. Both the keyboard and monitor work
OK with 10 m extension cables.
In my case, I'll probably move the furniture and use the 1.8 m
extension cable but for an other computer I may need a 20 m extension
cable.
I don't think it's OS specific (SuSE 8.1 is installed there) but I
haven't tested it.
