wow, i'm not alone, i've bought every release since 5.2 i think, except i didn't buy 8.1...there is a certain elegance to being able to hook up a machine and load an os...yes, it takes time and bandwidth, but it's pretty cool. i will certainly buy the next release, just because i'd like to do my part to keep suse going. but it means something that i can install it without buying the treeware, and i hope suse keeps it this way. just my 2 cents... cliff -----Original Message----- From: Martin Drake [mailto:mdrake@pt.lu] Sent: Friday, March 07, 2003 4:13 PM To: SuSE Linux Mailing List Subject: Re: [SLE] SuSE 8.1 ftp tree onto multiple CDs? Excuse me for asking but I'm curious: is the time and effort required on your part to achieve this really worth so little as to make this approach more attractive than going out and buying or ordering the distribution CD's at EUR43 for the upgrade package?
probably not, except:
- I'm curious! - I have the bandwidth to be able to download it (to a different machine) - My main reason for upgrading to 8.1 is simply to use the new Xfree84 4.3.0 (?) RPMs from SuSE - If I don't do it this way I would be more likely to wait for a leter version of SuSE than 8.1; after all, I've already bought 6.2, 7.1 and 8.0
We must have started out in Linux at about the same time; with me it was 6.2, 6.4, 7.1 and now 8.1.
Still, with a surname like that you've maybe got some Scottish blood in the family tree somewhere :-)
- ouch! ;-). yes, there is some scottish blood a little way back. As I said though, I have already spent good money on 8.0 and others, and in
my
current circumstances this is an approach I'm interested in.
Fair enough, each to his own etc. Good luck anyway. Martin Drake Luxembourg. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
