I have just installed ver. 8.1 Personal. I am trying to configure my pci modem. I downloaded the appropriate file for it and unpacked it. When doing a ./configure (as per install instructions) it gets to the point where I receive the following lines: -checking /usr/src/linux/include/linux/modversions.h usability... no -checking /usr/src/linux/include/linux/modversions.h presence... no -checking for /usr/src/linux/include/linux/modversions.h... no -configure: error: modversions.h is missing - you should configure your kernel first! In looking for modversions.h it is nowhere on my system, and there is no directory /usr/src/linux. I downloaded the updated patch for my kernel and installed the *.rpm according to the SuSE db file: "Updating your Kernel with RPM Packages". All worked fine. I also downloaded the kernel *src.rpm for the updated kernel and installed it. There were only -two- files in it. Still no /usr/src/linux directory. Still no modversions.h file. I am "assuming" that I have a precompiled or preconfigured kernel on my system and therefore there is no source tree. My original kernel was k_athlon-2.4.19-66, and the patch was for the new version k_athlon-2.4.19-167. I have tried to configure my kernel according to the SuSE db file: "Kernel: Configuring installable kernels", but can't because there is no source tree. I want to be able to install my modem drivers and configure my kernel. PLEASE help!!! Bernd
