Ralf, I have recently installed a Gainward Geforce2 MMX400 (agp) and had a few problems. First of all, if your card is the Geforce 4 MX440 SE it is not supported by SuSE, as far as I remember - check the hardware database. However nvidia do provide a driver that works and that will support your card - as far as I remember- www.nvidia.com - download the kernel package and the driver and also the install instructions and follow those instructions explicitly. They are detailed and very good. Once the drivers are installed, run Sax2 and the choose to enable hardware-based 3D acceleration when asked. sax2 will find the drivers and load an appropriate nvidia configuration. Do NOT alter the configuration from Sax2 - trying to alter the graphics card part of the configuration on my machine caused a total lock-up. Startx - everything should work tik-iti-bo. I did have stability problems with my particular card and the nvidia drivers, with repeated crashes and lock-ups in X. This was solved by telling the driver (/etc/X11/Xf86Config - search for 'options') not to use agp. Presumably it now treats the port as a PCI slot. However it seems to work as the crashes have stopped. Hope this may be of some help. Al
