I managed to get this working somwhat correctly using the cups admin web site on port 631, however when configured from yast2 it does not work. I still cannot get it to set a default printer, so all lp requests need the '-d

That is exactly what I did with the exception of the 8150 Foomatic and Postscript. Youdo not get the three lines missing from the top of printouts?
Thx, Chuck

Just wondering if anyone is using an HP 8100 via any type of connection (except local).
If so, what print driver are you using, what DPI setting did you choose, etc.. If you are printing via a windows print
server, what is
the OS of the print server?
Thanks for any info,
Yes, I run CUPS printing to an 8100 and 8150 with Jetdirect cards. Setup was very easy - selected the HP 8100 and 8150 drivers with Foomatic + Postscript and 1200 dpi. Paper size, duplexing settings all worked without a hitch.
I've never had any problems printing to HP 8100 family printers with CUPS. Output has always been exactly as I expected. The only complication is that CUPS defaults to A4 paper, and I've always needed to remember to change to Letter. As for the default printer setting with Yast2, be sure your environment PRINTER variable is set correctly. If you're printing from a bash shell, you might have to re-source /etc/profile. (This is a guess here.) Jim
