I'm not sure why your going to all this trouble of compiling it. There is a pkg for it on SuSE's ftp site for both 8.0 and 8.1. It works for the most part. The only issue I've had so far is that it doesn't like to do CD to CD coping for me. It says that it has no driver for my Creative 52x drive which I find simply stupid since it's an Atapi device. The only way I've found to copy images of CD's is to have the CDR read them ..make an image and then burn it with the same drive. Kinda pointless. Since I just got this Plextor 12x..I don't know if this is normal behavior. It seems like burning software under Linux kinda blows. I can burn CD to CD data disks with Xcdroast but not music CD's. And CDbakeOven just pukes on itself when I try to configure it. KOnCD works ok as root but when I give my username permission to burn CD's it just says that cdrecord has the wrong permissions and asks to set them correctly..which does absolutely nothing to make it work correctly. Seems like stupid to me to have to use 5 different programs to do 5 different functions.
Every cd drive you use in context with burning of cd's has to use ide-scsi. (As far as I know.) I have the same problem with CDbakeOven. Fabian
