Samsung sm 308 DVD/CDRW combo...

I have this DVD/cdRW combo drive and ordinary cdrom drive.
The problem is that I can't access the DVD at all (I installed using cd on this drive). I don't have any /dev/dvd
And /media/cdrecorder actually points to the device that is plain CD-rom (e.g. if I "mount /media/cdrecorder" and I have cd in normal cd drive, it gets mounted, but if the cd is in combodrive I get: no media found.
I have checked this from /etc/fstab and it is easy to fox this so that /media/cdrom points to either /dev/cdrecorder or dev/scd0, then this mounting to /media/cdrom is set correctly, but if these changes have some effects someplace else, might this break something.
And how to get DVD also available ? My system is 8.1 pro.
