The appropriate kernel modules should be loaded when you access the device. The device files for scsi tapes are: /dev/st0, /dev/st1, etc. for when you want the tape to rewind after you access it. /dev/nst0, /dev/nst1, etc. when you don't want it to be rewound after access. Try mt -f /dev/st0 status It'll try to get some info from your drive. If I recall correctly, a number of kernel modules will be loaded automatically (st being one of them). In any case, can you post the output of 'cat /proc/scsi/scsi' right after you boot? that may of help understanding your problem. -- Rafael
