Additionally.. I also tried to boot the saved kernel prior to the build.. but it just does not boot..Can I put a copy of the kernel from the suse 8.1 disk to /boot as vmlinuz and hope that it boots ?.. After spending the entire night trying to get it up and running I am looking for some help here on the group. TIA Vishal Khanna wrote:
Hi All I just compiled a new kernel while trying to get the bigphysarea patch running. Even though I stored a copy of the old kernel(and made relevant entries in grub) I cannot boot into either the old kernel or the new kernel, I get a kernel panic VFS Mount .. I booted somehow into rescue mode, and mounted the root partition /dev/hdba3 as rw, now when I do fsck -a /dev/hdba3 it gives me an error stating that cannot run fsck .. run manually... I then tried to do e2fsck /dev/hdba3
this came out saying superblock corrupt.. what possibly do you think could be the problem
Pls. help.. Vishal
