GNOME2 and annoying mouse behavior

Hi,
I'm running 8.1 with Gnome2 and occasionally the mouse will get stuck in
the lower left corner of the screen. If I try to move it out of the
corner, the cursor will move a little, then get driven back to the corner.
If I try to move the mouse VERY slowly, I might be able to get to the top
of the screen, but it takes some wicked skills. My usual solution to this
problem is to reboot from a non-graphical terminal. Sometimes it displays
this behavior at the login (GDM) screen, sometimes only after I have
started gnome.
The mouse is a PS/2 Microsoft (I know, it used to be a Windows box) Wheel
mouse.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this or how to fix it?
Thx,
Josh Trutwin
