From: Schulz Georges [mailto:G.Schulz@MIDATA.DE] I have here one system where I installed SuSE 7.3 and SLES 8. The system has on-board Intel PRO/100+ Server Adapter(PILA8407B). I started out testing 10/100 Mbit Switches. When I notice under SLES 8 I was only getting 85 Mbits and with SuSE 7.3 I was getting 95 Mbits. Now I am not a network expert, but this does not seem right. Driver info SuSE 7.3 has 1.6.22 and SLES 8 has 2.1.15. Does anyone have a clue why?
How did you test that? What kind of network do you have? How many machines are connected to the switch? ...
I used the command "bing -S 40000 -p ff 192.168.200.154 192.168.200.254" This is a test setup, so I only have 4 systems and one switch. I am at the moment only testeng 2 systems at a time. So there is no load on the switch or network.
It well may be that your network had some kind of traffic-peak and your switch reduced the throughput to 85MBit because it >hadn't had more internal bandwidth left? Just guessing ...
