It depends on what type of support levels you need. We currently use Arkeia, but we have not been happy with it compared to other heavy weight backup software like Veritas's BackupExec. We found the scheduling to be difficult for periodic backups or anything requiring unique schedules (version 4.2 is what we use and version 5.0 addresses the scheduling problems, but has issues in our environment). We've had to write custom scripts to parse the backup logs in order to get a summarized version of the backup report. Support for Arkeia has been the key for them. Even though we haven't liked what we've heard, they will responsd opposed to other vendors we are in contact with. If you need large low administrative backup solutions, the best products are not available for Linux yet. If you need just want to manually backup data and don't need support, then consider "tar". If you need a Linux backup solution specifically for backuping up multiple linux servers at scheduled intervals and support, then consider Arkeia. I'm still pretty new to Linux. I have a Samba server up and running and need to install tape backup before I can setup our in-house users on the server. Any suggestions on where to get started. I browsed the Suse documentation and didn't find anything on tape backup. I also checked YAST and didn't anything on setting up a tape drive or installing tape backup software.
Any suggestions on tape drives and software would be appreciated.
