I just installed SuSE 8.1 on my new PC, and it looks real good. However I can't get the modem to work, it is a Creatix V.9X DSP Data Fax Modem. I found a link on the web site of Creatix, referring to linux drivers on the Intel web site. There are even drivers for SuSE8.0, and the kernel is supported up to 2.4.18. I have tried to install it, although I have 8.1 with the 2.4.19 kernel. The install script however has the following error message: "/lib/modules... autoconf.h does not exist please install kernel source"
I have installed the kernel source from the SuSE DVD, and ran this script again, but still the same error.
Any thoughts are very welcome, and please realize I am a relative newbie.
Assuming kernel-source.rpm has been installed
As root, do
cd /usr/src/linux
make mrproper
make cloneconfig
make dep
touch /usr/src/linux/include/linux/modversions.h
Then try running the install script again
