I have downloaded and installed Netscape 7.01. Before that I was using Netscape 7. I did not remove the earlier version and installed the new version over it. Do I need to download Java separately or will the previous version work? Also, is it OK if I did not remove the earlier version?
The previous version of Java has problems with some things according to their web site, they recommend 1.4. When I install Netscape (or Mozilla), I always rename the directory and create a new /opt/netscape (/opt/mozilla) and install in there. Any plugins can be copied over from the plugins directory. That way, links still work, icons still work from users, etc. If there is a problem, renaming puts it back to previous.
