Can anyone provide me with a boot disk so that I can install SuSE Linux 8.0 Professional on a Dell PowerEdge 2600?
I have searched around, but can't find any pre-made ones. I have tried to make my own using the newer MegaRAID source code, but the build of the newer modules fail (and thats before I make my own driver disk and get into the 1000's of kernel versioning problems I know I will have....)
- go to http://www.domsch.com/linux/ and have a look - read the SuSE SDB, we got an update. We worked with the guy (Dell engineer) who owns the above URL actually, so what he's got there is from us.
I have been to this site, and the SDB, and have tried to do lots of work to get this working. If you now visit http://www.domsch.com/linux/ , you will find that I have the most information on getting SuSE 8.0 working on a Dell PowerEdge 2600 with a PERC 4/Di card at : http://www.oldham.gov.uk/mccall/linux/ Here you will find a modules disk for SuSE 8.0 containing megaraid 1.18f module, and standalone kernel modules for megaraid 1.18f and kernel 2.4.18-4GB and 2.4.18-64GB-SMP. You will also find my attempt at a update disk. I am having problems with this disk though. Although the installer uses the newer 1.18f kernel module from my update disk for the first part of the installation when the 2.4.18-4GB kernel is being used. After the installation of CD1, and the server reboots and uses the 2.4.18-64GB-SMP kernel, for some reason it still tries to use the older megaraid 1.18 kernel module from the install CD1, thus it can't mount the root partition and panics and the rest of the installation fails. Please can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I have put a lot of hard work into this, and would love to finally have it finished. It will be good for SuSE users to be able to install SuSE 8.0 onto a Dell 2600! -- Thanks, Andrew McCall Internet/Linux System Administrator I.C.T.
