It's not really an aversion, it's just not very practical. I've considered making unofficial qmail packages but
o The required /var/qmail and /service directories violate the FHS (/service isn't necessary if you don't use daemontools).
o qmail and other djb software is something that really needs to built from the ground up if you are ever going to understand how it works (this seems to be the opinion of the qmail list as well)
o We already have maintained packages for sendmail and postfix and unofficial packages for exim. Three MTAs should be enough.
Of course, djb would consider all of the above reasons to be lame.
Fortunately, once you understand djb's "scheme", it's fairly straightforward to build from scratch. Thanks for the input, Josh
