Here's the root of your problem, the Lexmark drivers are not for CUPS, but for LPR. You need to uninstall cups (and it's various associated packages) and install lprng
You also need enscript to be installed.
I emailed Lexmark about a week ago to ask if they had any plans to release standard PPDs for the Z35 to allow it to be used with CUPS, but have yet to receive a response.
One thing to note is that the Lexmark drivers also don't work for sharing the printer with other hosts on a LAN, but the print quality is excellent.
