I just experienced the same problem, updating my HP Omnibook laptop from 8.0 to 8.1 - the machine won't recognize/mount the DVD I used to do the update! What happened? How to fix it? On Sunday 01 December 2002 21:43, Rick Green wrote:
I just got around to upgrading my desktop SUSE 8.0 system to 8.1, and I discovered that now I can't mount CD's. I went to the SDB, and followed the directions to add cdrom and ide-cd to the initrd, ran mk_initrd, ran lilo, rebooted. I still can't mount CD-ROMs, only now the error message is
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom, or too many mounted file systems
...where before it said
mount: /dev/cdrom - no such file or directory
...this is a driver CD delivered with a Belkin UPS I just purchased. I was successful in mounting and reading it under 8.0 (It actually includes a fairly robust upsd implementation for Linux!) Just for a sanity check, I just tried to mount the SuSE 8.1 CD#1, and it was successful, so it must have something to do with the format of the belkin CD. If this isn't iso9660, what might it be? Were there any fstypes deleted in 8.1?
