First, you would need to be root. The sudo command can work in this context if you are doing it from your user account. Then issue one of the following commands as appropriate: ifconfig eth0 down ifconfig eth0 up There are network scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/sysconfig/network/scripts but the ifconfig command is the command that gets called in the end.
