1. email -- exim.org 2. samba is perfect for this. I have set up configs like this at about a dozen or more companies -- pretty basic and the YAST scripts pretty well. You might consider putting webmin on it (with secure connections of course) to really give it a clean look and make the customer happy with regards to managing it. (www.webmin.org) hope this helps. This is (what I hope is) a simple call on your experience... I'm looking for some suggestions.
I have a new task set before me. A very small company I do some work for on the side is in trouble. Their Windows network is dying... badly. They want something better... more stable. Enter me with Linux.
What they have: - a small network of WindowsXP machines - 4 machines for employees - 10 for customer use (its a training centre) - a broadband internet connection protected by a hardware firewall/router
What they need: - a file server - a print server
Extra that they would really like: - an email server. They would like to give temporary email addresses to students, and permanent email addresses (with internet access) to employees. They have never gotten this to work with their existing (and failing) Windows server so anything woudl be an improvement.
What I've got.... A shiny new copy of SuSE8.1.
Has anyone built up a something like this? Any pointers or tips? Possible stumbling points that I should watch out for?
Ideas I am tossing around... - using qmail for email (is this a good or bad idea?) - Samba so the one Linux machine can act as a central file/print server for the WinXP machines.
Any suggestions or pointers would be more than welcome here. I would really like to make this a success...
