Somehow my /tmp dir is full of junk:
----------- # ls ??~? ??~? ??~? ??~? ??~? ??~? .. .X11-unix `~~~? ~??~? ~??~? ~??~? ~??~? ~??~? ~V?~? ??~? ??~? ??~? ??~? ??~? ??~? .ICE-unix .qt `~~~? ~??~? ~??~? ~??~? ~??~? ~??~? ~~~~? ??~? ??~? ??~? ??~? ??~? . .X0-lock `~~~? ~??~? ~??~? ~??~? ~??~? ~??~? ~~#~? ~~~~? -----------
If I try rm * I get a bunch of errors.
On other UNIX systems, I have used od -c /tmp to show me the exact contents of the driectory, then used that info to delete the files.
How do I delete these files in Linux.
Try with "rm -- \?\?*"
-- Richard Bos No luck,
ls -b gives /tmp # ls -b \ \021\022Ï\022 \ \025\022Ï\022 \ \031\022Ï\022 .. `»³Ì\022 \025\022Ï\022 \032\022Ï\022 à»Å\022 \ \022\022Ï\022 \ \026\022Ï\022 \ \032\022Ï\022 .ICE-unix \020\022Ï\022 \025\022Ï\022 \033\022Ï\022 à®»Å\022 \ \022\022Ï\022 \ \026\022Ï\022 \ \033\022Ï\022 .X11-unix \020\022Ï\022 \026\022Ï\023 \035\022Ï\022 \ \023\022Ï\022 \ \027\022Ï\022 \ \033\022Ï\022 .qt \021\022Ï\022 \030\022Ï\022 \036\022Ï\023 \ \024\022Ï\022 \ \027\022Ï\022 \ \037\022Ï\022 `¬»Å\022 \022\022Ï\022 \031\022Ï\022 Œ#Ì\022 \ \024\022Ï\022 \ \030\022Ï\022 . `»³Ì\022 \024\022Ï\022 \032\022Ï\022 ÀV\237Î\022 This is bizzarre. :) I'm starting to enjoy the challenge.
