Hi,
Tut mir leid - ich muss dass in Englisch erklaren.
I'm trying (unsuccesfully) to compile a SuSe 8.0 kernel on my sony vaio pcg-c1vm.
The depressing thing, is that it worked a couple of weeks ago, I re-installed everything from scratch, so I'd have a clean machine to work with, and now it just hangs when I reboot.
To clarify, I can get onto the machine using 'failsafe', but this won't let me see use my USB floppy, because I have to pass pci=conf2 as a parameter to get around a bug in the alim153c driver, so I need to recompile the kernel...
Presumably I'm doing something really simple wrong, and any hints gratefully recieved. I've looked on SuSe's site, and linux laptops, and in many other places to no avail, and am just plain running out of ideas.
I take a fresh kernel from the original SuSe CD's, and then do the following:
cd /usr/src/linux
make mrproper
# BTW - it seems to make no difference if I do 'make oldconfig' either
# slurp original config from /proc/config.gz and change to a crusoe processor
make menuconfig
make dep clean bzImage modules modules_install
cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz.rf
lilo # having added vmlinuz.rf
reboot
Loading rf...................................
Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
_
Hangs with a blinking cursor :-(
Any and all help gratefully recieved.
