I am having slight problems with the ATI Radeon 7500 AGP card. I can not get SuSE 8.0 to recognize it's full 1600X1200 capabilities. SuSE will give a max resolution option of 1280X1024. I am using it with a Hitachi CM721F 19" Monitor.
Can anyone tell me how to properly configure this board? Can it be done via sax2? If so which board type are you using?
Thanks, Darrell Cormier
I think the problem isn't with the card, assuming that, apart from the resolution, it's working fine. I have found sax/sax2 to be absolutely crap with detecting and handling monitors. It detects my LG 55V correctly by name, but it gets the scanrates wrong. So I type it in, but still after sax2 has finished it's business, the scanrates entered into the XF86Config file (and so also the modelines) are incorrect again. And never twice the same. Also, trying to get the resolutions and refresh rates that I know my monitor can do, I tried specifying a larger monitor, to fool XFree (my screen switches off if you feed it a too high mode, so no chance of damaging it). The only one that did work was one of the bigger LG - on every single other monit I've tried, Sax2 gives me only one resolution - 640x480 @ 60hz. This is rubbish, really. I've found the following to help: 1. Check the Horizontal and Vertical scanrates in your XF86Config file and correct them if necessary. Add the desired resolutions, if they're not in there. 2. If this doesn't work, uncomment the "modes" line and section in XF86Config. For the most part X can work out the correct modelines by itself.
