There is a working ATI driver now, written by Tungsten Graphics. It works 
quite well, I've used it to watch DVD, play quake3 and Return to Castle 
Wolfenstein.

The only drawback is that it requires X 4.2.99, so you have to download and 
compile the entire X distribution.
