Yes it is (in order to configure the daemons). You have played with your kernel? Do the kernel sources correspond to the running kernel?
No I have not played with the kernel.
Another thing to investigate: if I remember correctly, SuSE puts the kernel modules related to vmware in the basic kernel package (which usually is k_deflt, but it depends on your CPU). If you played with it, the modules may be missing. Which version of SuSE are running?
Using SuSE 8.1.
Be sure you have the correct source tree and that "make dep" has been launched at least once in it. It creates some include files that may be needed, like modversion.h and a few other. I'm thinking about that because VMWare thinks your version number is 2.4.19 and not 2.4.19-GB... One of the include files contains the version number and "make dep" will create it with the correct number (with -GB). - -- Thibaut Cousin E-mail : cousin@in2p3.fr Web : http://clrwww.in2p3.fr -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE90mWfv1vqsTa1E4oRAjSTAJ4wrxK0L9IMP6fqPhhdMICst6M/CwCgmMIK vMXb2TZWiicehpM/lKzXx3E= =Hp9L -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
