Looks like you are in a source directory? Most source packages install to /usr/local/bin so they don't get mixed up
thats not it, the funny thing is phpinfo in my webserver shows 4.2.3 mmmm
Perhaps the php you installed, was only installed as a webserver module, and not as a standalone executable, so you still have the old version in /usr/bin/. The webserver normally does not use the /usr/bin/php because it is faster to use a module than to run it as CGI. Regards Ole PS.
