I found that PCI bus/devices information is passed through the BIOS and for some reason can't be retrieved by the kernel on its own during boot up. I added these options in /boot/grub/menu.lst to pass PCI parameters to the kernel: pci=bios, biosirq
Now I can see all devices with lspci and they all work except modem. Could somebody tell me please if this modem Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 56k Winmodem (Smart Link HAMR5600 compatible) is possible to make working under Linux at all?
Many thanks in advance.

Have ya visited the linmodems.org site? They have a database of modem chipsets and drivers. Perhaps some usefull data can be found there. Also check this site: http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html for further info. These two sites are a gift from the Linux gods. After searching for your ID string (HAMR5600) I found two hits in the database. Neither was supported (yet). However, there are related links that might prove useful. H.T.H.
