**> **shred ?
**
**i did a man shred
**
**it doesnt work with jounaling file systems :(
yeah .. damn ! next time (I nned to ) read all the way to the bottom of the
page ... grrrrrr !
Too bad , it looks like a really good , and SMALL solution... On a laptop it
*could* work pretty well tho, perhaps as a cron job ( where the shred was
pointed at the trash-bin ( folder ) .. now, if we could get it to install on
the Zaurus .. at least the smallish and wandering hardware could be kept
"clean" ( or it could run right after an update on teh Z or laptop , so the
data is backed up to some networked ( or standalone/home computer)
How large a HD is posible to run w/o a journalling system ?? (SO that box
could be data secured , and basically all the sensitive stuff could be dont on
it ???)
To all you programmer wizards There really needs to be a way to do this , in
offices etc... to at a minimum get govt approval that you aren't violating some
of the new privacy regs ...
It could get to be a show stopper for SOHO adoption .. after all , what good is
it to save money on the system and lose it all to Uncle Sammy and the lawyer
gangs that follow his pronounce-ments? Then both follow YOU around... even if
you haven't got deep pockets, it's assumed that to do business ( in various
classes of proffessions ) your Ins. company has buckets full of the lucre , and
why should they have it ? Hence the exhortation "Get out there and SUE !!!" (
and yeah, I DO know there are good ones that fight the good fight for the
little man , many are even family members <g>)
But , let's face it, there really are hordes of them (lawyer types) that do
little to further the public good, and instead spend their times searching out
data bases, esp. of email lists, that would hold , for instance, email
querries from brother or sister "Office Managers" w/ a "Help SOHO has problems
complying w/ X or Y regulation" subject line. To the end, the Legal-type hopes
he will be hitting a rich vein to mine...
