After installing a new kernel (k_deflt-2.4.19-110) at 8.1, I'm getting the following error message:
# lilo Fatal: open /boot/message: No such file or directory
and indeed an 'ls /boot/message' returns: ls: /boot/message: No such file or directory
The file is listed in /etc/lilo.conf: ... timeout = 80 message = /boot/message ...
Is this is an essential file, or can the line be removed from lilo.conf and all will be fine? There are no other (interesting) OSes on that system.
Yes, it is just the graphic interface for you to select OSs, if you remove it from lilo.conf, you will have startdard text menu mode .
Is it possible to copy a /boot/message file from a 8.0 system?
I am not sure, but you can always reinstall bootsplash package, and remember to mk_initrd again. And remeber to have tar installed. :)
