I am seriously wondering, not offending, why do you people upgrade your SuSE version?
Personally, I was swayed by three things. First, the kernel now comes in various versions, optimized for different processors rather than assuming a basic 386, which gives better speed. Second, SuSE 8.1 comes with Gnome 2 support as standard, which as a Gnome user I was keen on. Third, the improved YaST rpm manager. Given these, having a more recent DVD as backup was also a Good Thing - if anything goes wrong, I can get a clean system more easily without such a great need for upgrades than with my old 7.3. Also, I originally bought a personal edition and (given that I was tending towards upgrading anyway), the thought of having the Pro edition was also tempting, so that I have the devel libs to hand if I need them.
