Hi; I've just installed the kernel.org default 2.4.19 kernel. To get sound I need to rebuild alsa. In 8.0 the source was found in /libs/modules,
In 8.0 the source was in a package called km_alsa, which when installed placed the source files in /usr/src/kernel-modules/alsa-driver/
but I cannot find it in 8.1.
In 8.1 the alsa drivers aren't in a separate package anymore. The driver sources have been 'integrated' into the kernel source package. I suspect you'll have to grab them from the official alsa web site.
I'm reposting this as I need sound on my system. I've been living in the silent world for nearly a week ( not counting the main reason is that I have to watch DVDs on my small TV set rather than my large PC monitor:-)
Isn't there an OSS driver for your card? In the 2.4 series, OSS is included in the kernel.org distribution. Anders
