Well, that's a more difficult question than it might seem to be. I typically
compile my own XEmacs from the latest CVS. The SuSE provided XEmacs works
fine with the UTF-8, and I really don't know if I was having the problem
before the upgrade. The problem is that dired won't open a file or allow me
to modify file permissions. I tells me there is no file on the selected
line. I don't use dired a whole lot, so I'm not sure when it stopped
working.

I'm pretty sure Matamatica was affected by either the installation of 8.1, or
one of the patches which I applied shortly thereafter. I may well have been
having some of the Mathematica problems before the SuSE upgrade, but I'm
pretty sure the upgrade(or recent patch) caused them to be worse.

I've gotta tell ya. Trying to learn to use something as complex as
Mathematica to generate MathML with a brand new version of Mathematica, the
most recent Mozilla cvs checkouts, while upgrading your Linux box to the
latest release, and using the latest cvs builds of XEmacs to document it all
in DocBook beta DTD document type, is well.... interesting.

It ain't called /bleeding edge/ for noth'n' :-/
