Please disregard my previous message. I got myself over that hurdle, but there's a new one stumping me.
There's a 656,425B /synaptic file (Jun 5 2002) in /usr/sbin, but when, *as root*, I do "linux:/home/gilr # /usr/sbin/synaptic" I get: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Invalid XDM-AUTHORIZATION-1 key (failed key comparison) /usr/sbin/synaptic:could not open display
How do I overcome that?
Thanks, once again.
From the apt website: Synaptic can be launched from the root login as well by executing: # sux -c /usr/sbin/synaptic Execute the above command as ordinary user from the command line in an xterm or konsole. In your example above you need to allow root to write on your ordinary user display. Do this with "xhost +". -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
