Hi Josef, just check the file at: http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.1-i386/examples/sources.list.FT... http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.0-i386/examples/sources.list.FT... (the last one for 8.0 ;) The url shows the components that are available for 8.1, appearently the component "mantel-kernel" is not present in 8.1 These links are mentioned on the apt howto: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm in the section "Software Installation". The only thing I wunder is whether the 8.0 apt binary runs at 8.1 without problems. I don't think so as apt is a C++ program and needs to be compiled with gcc-3.2 to work correctly. However, you might be lucky. If you're not just get the srpm and make a new 8.1 rpm yourself (rpm -bb apt.spec) Op donderdag 10 oktober 2002 03:42, schreef Josef Demergis:
Since yast2 will not work in updating my system online (cannot connect to any servers and I have wget installed) I installed apt-get which gave me good service while using 8.0. I copied the required sources.list for 8.1(from ftp.gdwg.de) in the designated folder but when I try to run apt-get update I get many lines of errors of teh type "Failed to fetch= ftp://................... .mantel kernel etc" Protocol corruption. and then "Couldn't stat source package list ........etc etc" Since I could not find anything relevant in the apt-get faq and I am thinking that probably the sources.list listings are the problem I would appreciate any help you could give me.
Regards,
Josef
