John, I have SuSE 8.0 so my answer is based on that, ,and most likely this feature should be the same for 8.1. To make lm_sensors work for your chipset, you need to load the appropriate modules. To find out what modules, just run "sensors-detect" (if it is not installed, install that from your CDs). That script checks for your hardware and at the end, reports to you exactly what modules you need to load. Once that is done, the gkrellm which was shipped with my SuSE CDs showed the temperatures, voltages etc. without any problem. If those modules are not loaded, gkrellm doesn't even offer the configuration for sensors. I don't remember exactly but you may need to change the default configuration in gkrellm to specify what sensors you want to be show but no extra plugin is required. Hope this helps, Ali. P.S. If you are running ThinkPad laptop, do not try running lmsensors! On Tuesday 08 October 2002 5:00 am, John Pettigrew wrote:
I would like to use GKrellM to display the mobo and cpu temperatures, but I can't get the plugins to install on my SuSE 8.1 system. Could anyone tell me (a) how to get gklmsensors or fmonitor plugins to install (make fails with many many errors), and (b) what files I need to alter to get lm_sensors working? The output from sensors-detect helpfully says "put this in some config files"...
