Re: [SLE] when will 8.1 be available on the ftp site

The only REAL problem that has surfaced is with *some* interactions with Java... namely the Java plugin for browsers and a few Java apps that tend to make system calls back to the OS. As everyone else is switching to gcc 3.2 (even Sun now has gcc 3.2 as part of their contrib. packages), I am sure it will be only a short time before the issue of having a JRE/JDK complied with 3.2 is available. Besides this, 8.1 is actually very nice and the fact that it is built with gcc 3.2 offers a lot of performance benefits (3.2 is just a better compiler.) If you really need Java to work... then yes, maybe you should stick with 8.0 for now. Otherwise, there is nothing to hold you back.

Not for a while.... why don't you support them and buy it!

Hi -

Does anyone know when 8.1 will be available for
download on the suse ftp site? I can't find it...

Aloha => Beau.

From what I have been reading on this list, probably nobody should buy it. I know new releases tend to have bugs, but this is a dot release--it should
have killed the bugs. I think SuSE screwed up badly, and we should all
wait for version 8.2, or just use the 8.0 version for quite a while. --doug
