What I did, was simply ran through a normal install where the Promise controller is setup with a Mirror (RAID1)... after creating the partitions on the detected RAID device, /dev/ataraid/d0, installed the software and the got the typical "LI" when the system tried to reboot. I then boot from the CDROM, and selected "boot installed OS". Once the machine was running, I added the following entry to lilo.conf:

disk = /dev/ataraid/d0
bios = 0x80

then re-ran lilo and rebooted. Mine works great.

Greetings:

This promise raid card is driving me and SuSE 8.0 nuts. Following the SuSE help note http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/promise80.html and the german reference http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/287/2002/4/0/8539695/ which basically says that you need to reverse the ide controllers when using raid via the lilo switch ide=reverse 8.0 does see the drives in the correct order but then fails to write lilo to the master hda drive.

The disc setup is as follows:

drive one: hda (partitioned with /boot /opt and /swap
drive two: raid 1 ( partitioned with remaining requirements)
drive three: raid 1

Now when the install completes the second time as described by the SuSE reference, lilo does not get written to /dev/hda3 (primary)
Any advise at this point would be welcomed.
