Actually, this is right - you can make your swap partition as big as
you want. And, as you have discovered, the maximum useful size for
current Linux is 2 GiB on IA32 ("man mkswap").
I know this won't help you much. I just want to stress that people are
sometimes surprised when the answer answers their question and not
what they want to know.
