then i tried e2fsck -p dev/hdb1 and got e2fsck: Bad majic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/hdb (null):it then sufggests that i try e2fsck -b 8913 <device> which dowsnt work. <sob> any idea what is going wrong ?
The hdb1 was unmounted at the time i was doing all this and the line in the /etc/fstab for mounting it goes as follows:
Well are you sure /dev/hdb1 is a swap device? What does fdisk -l /dev/hdb say? Do you have windows on this machine? I've seen windows do this to drives after running defrag. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
