I am sure I miss understand something, .... ;-(
I have setup a database on a testing machine with a php program to access this database
The php program knows: the database host (here localhost) the database name the database user the database users password the database table
If I set the database user as "root" with no password (=== it is an off line testing machine !!!) the program works perfect. If I set the user and password via phpMyAdmin it fails. I have only entry in database mysql / table user an entry for this database. Even I grant all rights, it will not help. Access denied. In phpMyAdmin I type in:
Field Type Function Value Host char(60) % User char(16) username Passwd char(16) PASSWORD `users password` in single quote marks
What am I missing?
Try logging into mysql using the command line client and see if you can select records from your table. Use: mysql --user=user --password=password databasename You can also use mysqladmin to test security settings, and of course dump the actual settings from the security table. I have never used phpMyAdmin and this is one of the reasons why. If you have a problem, you don't know if it's with your add-on GUI tool or the database. You have to use the command line tools for real troubleshooting so why not use them all the time?
