'lo all, I'm having trouble getting X to go into the proper refreshrates. It's been like this since I've first tried linux, and after lots of reading up I still haven't found an answer. My monitor CAN do: 640x480 @ 100hz 800x600 @ 85hz 1024x768 @ 67hz 1152x864 @ 60hz X will only do: 640x480 @ 100hz (or that's what YAST2 tells me, but it looks more like 70-something) 800x600 @ 70hz 1024@768 @ 60 1152X864 not @ all... At first everything was in 60hz. I noticed that YAST2 detected my monitor's scanrates wrongly, and after fixing that manually, I now had 640x480 @ 70 and the rest at 60hz. Running sax2 lost my 1024x768 completely. Running YAST2 I had to change my monitor to a larger one to fool X. Now I'm getting 70hz in 800x600, but I'm still not getting what I'm supposed to. 800x600 is not supposed to flicker, and right now it's hurting my eyes. 1024x768 is unbearable and 640x480 is really useless in KDE - nothing fits on the screen, and I hate this scrolling desktop idea. I'm still not getting X to go into 1152x864. What do I need to change and where to force X to do the resolutions and refreshrates that I want? I saw this bit in the XF86Config file. Does this relate? How? ---------------------------- Section "Modes" Identifier "Modes[0]" Modeline "640x480" 27.96 640 656 720 864 480 480 485 501 Modeline "800x600" 43.68 800 816 928 1072 600 600 606 626 Modeline "1024x768" 64.25 1024 1088 1264 1320 768 816 824 898 Modeline "1024x768" 71.71 1024 1088 1264 1320 768 816 824 898 EndSection ---------------------------- I was wondering if YAST2 might have misdetected the amount of video memory? It's a 16mb TNT2 and all other distro's I've tried before detects only 1mb or 2mb. Where can I double check this? It doesn't seem to be in the XF86Config file.
