memtest86 V3.0 or Linux can damage BIOS

Hi,

my mainboard was replaced three times, because booting the PC showed only some wild characters on the screen. This happened after adding a second memory board and running memtest86 or running Linux after installation of network- and SCSI-card.
With the fourth board I really just booted memtest86 V3.0 from discette (two memory boards installed). And again the BIOS was damaged. But I noticed that the PC could at least boot from discette (Bootblock BIOS).
So I downloaded a BIOS-update for my PC and the BIOS could be restored. And this BIOS-version seems to be better resistant against memtest86.
Here are my system details:

PC: Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo 600
Processor: 1.8 GHz Pentium IV
Mainboard: Microstar 645-Ultra (with special Fujitsu-Siemens BIOS)
Memory: 2x256 MB DDR PC2100

Site for BIOS-update: www.fujitsu-siemens.de
