Suse 8.0 I wish to increase the resolution of my screen to 800x600 so that I can sit back further. My XF86Config is working ok at the default resolution but when I try to go to 800x600 I get a huge screen that I need to pan from side to side to see. Can anyone say where I should be looking to correct this Brian Marr
Are you talking about starting X in 800x600 or starting it in a higher resolution and then shifting to 800x600 with ctrl-alt-+? If you mean the latter, you can't do that without getting the desktop effect you're seeing. It is a feature currently missing in X. Reading mail on the X developer's mailing lists leads me to understand that they're working on it, but it is as yet unfinished. So if you want 800x600 without the "scrolling desktop" effect, you're going to have to start it in 800x600 and not define higher resolutions in XF86Config regards Anders
