Ah, you've not got the gnome libraries installed, so you can't run gaim unless you do. they are on the suse8 cds, but they are quite big (a minimal install will be about 80MB i guess, you dont need the whole of gnome, but its hard to get only parts of it. bring up a terminal session, "su -" to root and run "rpm -Uvh /path/torpm.rpm"
It hopefully will install correctly, then as a nomal user again, in a shell typing "gaim" will launch the program.
