Hi, I'd like to share my experience with ttf in X. I've been wandering for long time why the ttf are "ugly" in KDE: they are larger than in Windows, and font like Times New Roman look ugly (unreadable/uncomfortable to be edited) in OpenOffice.org (e.g. 10pt at 100% zoom ratio) . Worst, from 3 browser (Konq, Mozilla, Opera), they display ttf differently. Only Opera display ttf properly, Mozilla sometime displays properly, sometime ttf size is larger. Konq was the worst, all ttf are larger. Yesterday, I create an OpenOffice text document, and became frustated. So today, I spent a couple hours, searching in Google. Apparently, the fix is simple, run X server with 100 dpi (by default, X server is started with 75 dpi). Now all ttf are displayed properly, in browser, in OpenOffice.org. Oh btw, I always upgrade X server from SuSE's rpm, which makes me wonder why SuSE don't team just provide X servers default to 100 dpi, as I've encountered several site suggesting this 100 dpi thing. Regards, Verdi
